Pepperlina - Cloves

These cloves come from Idjwi Island in the Democratic Republic of Congo . They are grown and dried by Elody Wema Naburafiki and her women’s cooperative (Coopérative des Productrices des Epices Wa Mama Congo Ni Tamu). In addition to cloves, they also produce a wide range of other products, such as coffee, black and white pepper, ginger, and nutmeg.

Cloves are the dried flower buds of the clove tree. They have a spicy, pungent flavor and are therefore used sparingly. They are very versatile: in sauces, for cabbage dishes, in gingerbread, or also in punch and mulled wine. By the way, cloves are also included in most curry powders.
