Santa Lucila is a family business started 60 years ago.Their brand is called Café Vidita which translates to "small life". This name is by the nick name, now 97 year old founder, René Senior, gave his daughter.
Nowadays the company is run by his grand children Rina and René Junior.
Until 2007, Café Vidita, sold their coffee through the conventional market, meaning they sold it to big companies that did not care for quality at all. Since 2007 they are they have completely independent and strive to produce the best coffee in Nicaragua.
Nicaraguan coffee can be the best in the world," says Rina, "and we really want to offer the best of what this country has to offer, and we believe we're on the right path".
The 5 coffee plantations owned by the Paguaga family are situated in the world renowned region of Nueva Segovia and they have turned the mountain tops of their plantations into natural reserves .
With taste notes of nuts, chocolate and caramel this coffee reminds me a bit of the coffee produced by Churupampa in Peru. Though it has a fruity note of strawberries, which you can find on the bottom of your cup. :P
