Gloria is a real sunshine when she enters the room and laughs, you just have to giggle along!

I met Gloria in Milan at the Producer Crossover, organized every other year by my importer. At the Producer Crossover coffee producers, roasters and other coffee actors, from around the globe meet up and discuss and try to come up with problems in the coffee industry.

Kenyian coffees are a are quite a difficult topic, because on the one hand it is one of the most expensive coffee origins, but on the other hand the farmers almost get no money at all, because everything has to go through a corrupt government owned auction system.

Gloria owns an export license which makes direct trade with roasters possible for herself and 5 other women owned coffee farms. With this export license it's possible to circumvent auctions and middlemen and thus receive more money for the produced coffee.

Together with her Finnish husband Jarmo, Gloria runs a very eco-friendly coffee farm. They use principles of permaculture and run their depulper and irrigation system through solar energy. In addition to coffee, they also grow macadamia and avocado as well as cows, goats and sheep. Fertilization is done solely in a natural way with animal dung as well as worm tea.

The coffee is naturally processed, meaning it is dried in the coffee fruit and the beans absorb some of the fruitiness in the process. The result is an excellent fruit bomb with taste notes of strawberry, orange and milk chocolate. Kenyan coffees are very light coffees.
